Time to meet some kids
Everything is as ready as it can be. I'm sure tomorrow will be a whirlwind, but do still fear those moments where I just don't really know what to do. All in all, I'm very excited and can't believe that just two years ago, I was still working at the newspaper.

I met 8 of my kids!
Today was "Ready Set School!' and I got to meet 8 of my kids and their parents. It felt so real. It is shocking to me that people trust me enough to do this job and that I get to do it now. However, I also felt very comfortable and confident in my classroom. Kids said, "Wow, this is way different than last year" and the other said to her friend, "She's much nicer than my old teacher."
I also got a mini recital from one of my kids who is a great tap dancer. It's starting to feel real. The fun begins in less than one week!

Staff Mtg + visit to Ms. Boeger
Today I got to go to my first whole staff professional development. We did a lot of community building things and got to peruse the NW African American Museum. Guess what I learned? Jimi Hendrix went to my school. Maybe he was even in my classroom as a little rule breaking tike!
Then I got to visit Alexis in her classroom. Man the teacher left a lot for her!

Work Christmas!
So many people are getting jobs and starting jobs. It felt like Christmas this morning just thinking of my mom getting on the Ferry, Stacie picking out her business journalist outfit, and Alexis walking into her classroom for the first time ever. In the mean time, Nick got his class list, and I laminated like I've never laminated before!
School is starting to feel more and more real. I'm getting a little overwhelmed, but still, I am still in awe that nobody has told me it's all an evil joke. Tomorrow the whole staff is going to the African American Museum for our first real day (woo woo!) and Thursday, kids and families are invited to see classrooms!

Day 4: birds, my parents, magnets
Today was a great day in the classroom. I got to a point where I feel like things are coming together. It was especially fun to have my mom and dad visit and help make the reading corner especially anelafied. A few staff members visited and I think they were a bit confused by the aesthetics, but I love it, so I'm pretty happy. Two Weeks Left!

Shopping!
I'm back to Anelablog!
Today, I went to Goodwill and spent over one hundred buckaroos on books, lamps, baskets, and other fun things for my classroom. Then after dinner I went to Target (and felt like a zombie because I was so tired because I can't sleep, because I'm SO excited) to buy random things from their dollar section, bins, markers, etc.
So, it's late, and I'm so tired. But, I'm continually just honored that I get to do this. I just looked at Katiedid and was touched at the fact that her kid going to Kindergarten is a huge deal. I remember how BIG it was to get to go to first grade. My mom always made school such a special and fun thing. This makes me wonder what my future students are thinking. As a kid, I never thought about my teachers, but now that I'm the teacher, I'm feel like it's so silly that I'll have control over so many things. It's so exciting and I'm so honored to get to be such an important part of these kids' lives. I just can't believe that I'm a first grade teacher.
And now, I have to wait until Monday to go back to my room. Urg. I could just move in there. Scheduled datenight with Nick is a must or I'll never leave Leschi!
