Weekend of friends

Our friends James and Stacy came to visit from Phoenix. It was perfect timing to make Jalapeno grilled goodness from my LA friend Rachel's friend's blog. It's jalapeno with cream cheese and garlic and a sausage all rolled up with bacon. Read how to make them here.

One note on the Jalapenos- don't wipe your face while you prep them! I felt like I had a major sunburn for about an hour last night.

I forgot to take a picture of us eating them- but here is one of us eating french toast the next morning!

She's sewing!

I made welcome garland for my class! I also made curtains to cover shelves. I haven't had access to my class much because it's not clean yet (a teacher's nightmare), but I have gotten acquainted to my new sewing machine.

Wallpaper bathroom

I'm still inspired to do a wallpaper hallway! In the meantime here's Nick's grandma's half bath. It's my favorite bathroom in the world. The flowers just suck you in!

Look at these beautiful carrots!

Nick watched our friends' cat last week while they were in New York getting engaged. In exchange they gave us their farmers box including these beautiful purple carrots!

Congrats Steven and Jessica!

Picket fence and path

The day we got the keys to our house we had some friends over and got take out from Thai Toms. It's one of those tiny hole in the wall places where spicy #3 out of 5 will make you sweat. Well that day, Po snuck out the front door and ran into the road (it's a busy street-there's a couple bus lines) . Also that day, we decided that putting up a picket fence in the yard was a priority.

Fast forward one month and here's the fence that Nick made with his who flew in from Big Bear, CA. Nick made the plans on a leftover piece of wood and went from there.

My mom came over from across the Sound and helped us paint it white.

When I went out of town for a week, Nick surprised me and put up an adorable stone path. He got the stones from a wholesale place in Woodenville.

Thanks to Nick's Grandparents who helped fund the fence. It adds so much character (& safety) to our home!

A visitor

Our friend James is in town so we took the ferry to Bainbridge Island, rented kayaks, went to lunch and on our way home we stopped by Poke Place to get ingredients for a caprese salad.

Hair bow flowers

I'm in a wedding next week and I volunteered to make hair flowers for the bridesmaids.

I bought a faux silk, an off white lace, fancy golden buttons, and large barrettes from the grocery store. (Check out my new desk!)

After the disappointment that was the practice flower on the left I did some research and decided to combine this flower with this one.

After cutting double sided petals, I melted the edges of the faux silk.

Then I sewed them together. How lovely!

Nick learned his lesson

Don't play w/Po while you're on the computer!

Goodbye bachelor pad couch and carpet!

I was surprised by my reaction to the transfer station. I know trash is a reality, but seeing so much of it while throwing huge items over the edge and listening to the screeching noises actually made me shake a little.

more colorful doors

My 7 year old student, then my friend's 5 year old both suggested "rainbow"

the lovely MLS photos

When Nick and I were house hunting, we kept avoiding our house because the listing was just that bad. The pictures were taken when the house was a mess and they were terribly blurry. We only house hunted for a month, and it was listed the entire time. So when they finally dropped the price, we decided to stop by just to see if it really was the fixer it looked like it'd be.

I actually love the blurry pictures. If this house was staged, we would have missed it.

See our pictures on Hooked on Houses.

Let's play with colors

Some very evil trick will have to happen for the house to not go through at this point. I'm not celebrating yet, but I am making plans!

Here's the plain house as it is in the listing.

I'd like to add some detail,

or some color,

or a lot of color,

I've been leaning towards red,

now I'm getting creative.

Too much? :)

What do you think?
